Calendar of Events: MATERIALICA 2008

The materials industry is preparing itself for the upcoming 11th International Trade Fair for Materials Applications, Surface Technology and Product Engineering - in short, MATERIALICA 2008.

MATERIALICA 2008 (14-16 October, Munich) is one of the biggest, and most specialized, events for the materials industry. Apart from showcasing their latest trends and developments, it has become an important platform for collaborations. This year's show will put a special focus on Composites, Metal Light, Surface, and Ceramics.

Just like the power of materials lies in its combinations - a lot of materials experts use the MATERIALICA to share ideas with other industries to consider new collaborations. For instance, ProductConcept is one of the exhibitors that focuses on innovation through collaboration, or as they say "Competence Together" (they have special offerings for companies here).

If you are a designer, or someone who is not afraid for tech talk and knows how to translate materials research into everyday user needs - then it's definitely worth paying a visit to this year's show in Munich. Also, to see this year's MATERIALICA Design & Technology Award (with a brand new "MATERIALICA CO2 efficiency Award"). Too busy? Competitions: 2nd RecyclingDesignpreis (until August 31st)

If "reduce, reuse, recycle" is music to your ears then check out the RecyclingDesignpreis. Design students and professional designers with sustainable design ideas and a can participate with creatives and designers are invited to submit their works and concepts.

The 2nd edition of this competition is organized by the Recyclingboerse and will host an award ceremony on 3rd October 2008. Selected submissions will be showcased at the MARTa Herford museum.

Going for the first prize? Keep in mind that the jury is keeping an eye on: quality of design, practical value, feasibility (also with physically or psychologically handicapped people, in youth workshops or initiatives of employment), environmental safety, innovation and potential for the future.

- The first prize is endowed with 2.500 €
- Closing date is August 31

contractworld.award 2009 - apply today (deadline: June 6!) and submit your designs later

Are you into interior design? Then register before June 6 (and send your submissions latest June 20) for this year's contract.world award, an international architecture award for innovative interior design concepts.

The contractworld.award competition which focuses on the latest developments in interior design, with particular reference to interior fittings and fixtures, lighting, flooring, wall and ceiling finishes, with a total prize money of 60,000 EUR.

"Prizes will be awarded for the best design concepts in three main categories: progressive work environments, creative hotel and restaurant interiors, and innovative shops and exhibition stands. An additional entry category this year covers conversion projects, where interiors originally constructed for religious, cultural or public use have been successfully redesigned to serve a new purpose."

We're inviting you to the very first "7 x 7 - seven times seven" event, a creative night to bring together creative professionals with experts from the materials and manufacturing industry. This special evening is part of the "DESIGNinFORM" day conference in Hamburg organized by the "Verband Deutscher Industrie Designer".

"Seven times seven" ist ein Kreativkonzept des DESIGNERCLUBS von SybilleU. Piechura. Der Event fuer professionelle Kreative unter Mitwirkung von Aart van Bezooyen, Materialexperte und neu im Experten-Team der Agentur.

7x7 findet nach der Veranstaltung DESIGNinForm statt. Hier ist die Zahl "7" die Grundlage fuer eine Mischung aus Erfolgsgeschichten von Designern, Dialogen mit der Industrie und live stattfindenden Experimenten. 7x7 sorgt fuer neuartige Ansaetze Wege zur Entdeckung von Innovationen zu gehen. Wir suchen nach Ideen mit Vorteilen fuer Benutzer, fuer bessere Funktionalitaet oder nach neuer aesthetik. Diesen Kernfragen gehen wir auf den Punkt und schaffen an diesem Abend Visionen.

Dieser Abend findet in der Location: Die Welt ist schoen in Hamburg statt. Zentral im Schanzenviertel ist es neben dem Nil eine exklusive Adresse. Die Bar ist eine Lounge mit Garten und Dachterrasse und wird fuer uns an diesem Abend vollstaendig reserviert sein. Die vier Ebenen sind nach den 4 Elementen konzipiert. Zahlreiche Publikationen haben diese Idee seit 2002 mit vielen Beitraegen belohnt. Wir fuehlen uns dort sehr willkommen. Fuer das leibliche Wohl wird gut gesorgt sein.

Wer sich fuer den Abend gut vorbereiten moechte, kann seine Referenzen oder Lieblingsstuecke an einem Flatscreen praesentieren. Die Arbeiten laufen im Loop nebenher. Bitte bei Interesse melden! Wir haben genuegend Moeglichkeiten Eure Bilder einzubinden. Abgabeschluss ist der 26. Mai. Die Einzelbilder sind als JPG im Format : 1920 x 1080, 72 dpi einzureichen.
